Botox Cosmetic® is a purified toxin derrived from Clostridium Botulinum. Its on use longer than 30 years safely and approved by FDA in 2002. When a precisely measured dose is injected into a muscle, that muscle is paralyzed and does not produce a movement and wrinkle on the the overlying skin. This stops the wear of the skin. If a wrinkle is already there, it gradually softens. The deeper the wrinkle, the longer time it takes for the wrinkle to soften.
The muscles of the face often have a matching muscle that moves the tissue in the opposing direction. Weakening or paralyzing a muscle with Botox can leave these other muscles unopposed and cause odd brow shapes or brow droop or undesired lower lid shape. It is important the Botox be administered by someone who understands the way it works and the interactions of the facial muscles so the patients get the desired results. Excess sweeting and migrane are other indications. When given in cosmetic doses, takes 3-5 days to see the effects and Botox lasts 4-5 months.
If you have lines on your forehead, between the brows (the glabella), and outher corners of your eyes (crows feet) you should consider treatment with Botox Cosmetic®. Botox Cosmetic® is indicated for the temporary correction of moderate to severe glabellar lines (frown lines) associated with corrugator and/or procerus muscle activity in patients 18 to 65 years of age.
Botox Cosmetic® is contraindicated if the patient has an infection at the proposed injection site(s) and or has a known hypersensitivity to any botulinum toxin preparation or to any of the components in the formulation. Do not undergo Botox treatment if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if you have experienced an allergic reaction to another product containing botulinum toxin.
